Finding the Unalloyed Gold Needle in Elden Ring is a vital step for players seeking to progress through Millicent's intricate storyline and alter key narrative outcomes. This key item plays a critical role in curing Scarlet Rot and suppressing the influence of outer gods. Understanding where to locate the needle and how to repair it allows players to navigate one of the game's most memorable questlines seamlessly.
Locating Commander O'Neil in the Aeonia Swamp
To acquire the Unalloyed Gold Needle, players must venture into the treacherous Aeonia Swamp located in central Caelid. Deep within the rot-infested heart of the swamp, you will encounter the field boss Commander O'Neil. Defeating Commander O'Neil yields the broken needle as a primary drop reward.
The battle against Commander O'Neil requires careful positioning due to the surrounding environmental hazards and summoned spirit allies. Utilizing ranged attacks or fire magic can help clear his spectral army quickly while keeping distance from his rot-inducing attacks. Once defeated, the broken needle automatically enters your inventory.
Repairing the Broken Needle with Gowry
Obtaining the broken needle is only the first step, as it must be restored to its functional form. Head east of the swamp to find Gowry in his shack near the entrance of Sellia, Town of Sorcery. Handing the broken needle over to Gowry initiates his repair process, requiring you to reload the area or rest at a nearby Site of Grace.
Upon returning to Gowry's Shack, he will return the fully repaired Unalloyed Gold Needle alongside instructions to aid Millicent. This interaction also reveals key information required to dispel the magical barriers shielding Sellia. Completing this step prepares you for the next major milestone in the questline.
Delivering the Needle to Millicent
With the repaired needle in hand, travel to the Church of the Plague located atop the cliff beyond Sellia. Inside the church, you will find Millicent suffering from severe Scarlet Rot. Presenting the needle to her cures her affliction and allows her journey across the Lands Between to continue.
Following this encounter, Millicent moves across several strategic locations including Altus Plateau and the Mountaintops of the Giants. Advancing her narrative rewards players with powerful talismans and eventually transforms the needle into Miquella's Needle. This final item grants players the power to subdue the Flame of Frenzy and alter their ending.
